Bistek

  Description:  Main Dish

Tender beef slices topped with soft translucent onions in flavorful, mild tangy sauce. Feel free to adjust the ingredient amounts to your own personal preferences.  "Bistek" is actually a Tagalog word for Beef Steak.

Ingredients:
2 lbs. beef, sliced
1/2 cup Soy sauce
1/4 cup Lemon Juice
4 tbsp. Sugar
1 pc large onion
Pepper to taste
2 tbsp. cooking oil

Instructions:
Slice beef into thin, 3 x 3 inch size pieces.  Soften beef via meat tenderizer for 20-30 seconds each piece.  Place in medium sized bowl.

Marinate beef with soy sauce, lemon juice, sugar and pepper.  Let sit for about 15-20 minutes.

Slice onions into 1/4 inch widths along the grain of the onion to form the natural rings of the onion.

Lightly grease sauce pan with cooking oil.  Place over a high flame, then add all ingredients and 3/4 of the onions.  Cover.  Once pot begins to rattle, quickly lower the heat to the lowest possible flame.  Simmer until most of liquid is reduced but not down to complete dryness.  Add remaining onions. Cook until all of the onions are transparent.  Serve hot with white rice. Makes 6 servings.
