Roman Catholicism was instilled into the Filipino culture by the Spaniards when they ruled here for more than 300 years. Today, more or less 85% of all Filipinos are Catholic, the rest are either Muslim, Buddhist or other denominations. The largest of the minority religious groups is the Muslims, who live chiefly in Mindanao and in the Sulu archipelago. The Philippines is the only nation in Asia with the largest concentration of Catholics.  I even read in some books that the Philippines is the only Christian country in Asia.  As a result, many festivals and cultural events are held in honor of the church.  Churches are widespread throughout the country, as well as Catholic schools and colleges.

I myself came from a Catholic high school and graduated from a Catholic university.  I remember when I was in high school, students usually hear mass two to three times in a week and go to confession every month.  I have run out of what to say to the priest as my sin ('coz as you know, I have been a good girl and still am :P )  Same thing in College, students usually attend the First Friday Mass and I have real priests and nuns as professors for my Theology class.  I still try to go to mass every Sunday up to now and practice the values I have learned.  I bet you are wondering now why I am "ms_hornier" - it is just a bluff.  I am saintly really... hehehe.

The American occupation also brought Protestantism to the Philippines. Today, Filipinos exhibit a growing interest in various evangelical and charismatic movements.
